“Have allergies? The mold and mildew will tear you apart. It's rampant everywhere.”

Mold has a distinctive musty smell. Most common molds will make the home smell old and unpleasant. You may notice the pungent nature of the smell increases as you run the air conditioner, particularly if mold spreads to the air ducts.
Check - My apartment stinks!
You Notice Visible Signs of Mold
The mold you find in an air conditioner often looks similar to the mold you find elsewhere in the home, such as an uncleaned shower or basement. The patchy black residue may or may not wipe off easily, and will require cleaning to remove permanently.
Check - See pictures below.

You Experience Recurring Respiratory Symptoms
If mold did not cause serious adverse health consequences, homeowners would not need to worry about its presence. However, mold can cause anything from mild irritation to serious respiratory illness requiring hospitalization.
Check - Itchy, burning eyes. Itchy skin. Headaches. Sometimes it was hard to breathe.
In addition to causing health issues, the presence of mold could affect the overall value of a home or building.

“The building had a very bad black mold issue as well. My AC vents were constantly building up with mold. Other tenants I knew in the building also had issues with mold and I suspect a full building gut job would be THE ONLY way for the mold to be taken care of.”
"The problem with all of this is the obvious presence of mold. you can smell it. I am very sensitive to allergies and have increasingly worsening allergies while ive lived here, i cant imagine the mold doesnt have something to do with it."
"we ended up getting large expensive curtains to block out the noise and the wind that you could feel coming through the sliding glass doors all the time. the paint comes off our walls and sticks to the floors in tiny speckles"

"The AC feels like a swamp cooler blowing cool damp air during the summer so damp that mold grows on the inside of the vents!"

"We have rights! Please join me in filing complaints with the following agencies: City of Houston Health Department: 311 Houston Tenant Association: 713-982-1985 Houston Legal Aid: 713-237-9429 I have notified the Health department this morning and will update everyone as I receive any information. 6/30/09: Here is an update to the last entry. City of Houston Health and Neighborhood Protection has responed to my complaints and Resource Residential has responed quickly to remove the mold from the a/c vents with a cleaning scheduled for 7/1/09. I, at my own expense have contracted with a firm to test and prove mold damage has occured in my unit prior to the evidence being removed tomorrow in order to prevent any doubt the mold exists. I will update this review as I receive any updates. DO NOT MOVE HERE! A/C IS BROKEN NOW! THIS PLACE IS ON IT'S LAST LEG!"
